Applications have opened for the 2026 International Media Studies (IMS) master’s programme offered by DW Akademie. This postgraduate degree is designed for candidates from all regions of the world who aspire to take on leadership or decision-making roles within journalism or the wider communications field. The programme is particularly suitable for individuals preparing for careers in journalism, as well as professionals already working across broadcast, digital, and print media or in strategic communication roles.

Applicants are expected to have successfully completed an undergraduate degree or an equivalent qualification and to have gained a minimum of one year of relevant professional experience in a media-related sector after completing their first degree. The course is delivered entirely in English.

The programme is aimed at professionals working in radio, television, online platforms, and print media, as well as aspiring journalists, particularly those focused on electronic media. It also welcomes journalists and managers from community radio stations, communication specialists, staff members of non-governmental organisations, employees of government ministries, individuals involved in cooperative development initiatives, representatives of regional media networks and national broadcasters, and members of media associations.

A limited number of scholarships are made available through the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) for up to ten exceptionally qualified candidates from developing countries. To qualify for one of these scholarships, applicants must have completed their most recent university degree within the past six years. Candidates applying for DAAD funding are required to provide additional documentation, which is detailed in the application requirements published on the DAAD website.
