Applications are open for the 2026 Äänit Prize, a prestigious social impact award organized by the The Mandela Rhodes Foundation to support innovative African leaders creating meaningful change across the continent. The prize is designed to recognize and fund projects, businesses, and nonprofit initiatives that are improving the lives of Africa’s most marginalized communities through sustainable and impactful solutions.
The Ääänit Prize is open exclusively to alumni of the Mandela Rhodes Scholarship and the Rhodes Scholarship from 2005 onwards. The initiative supports both nonprofit and for-profit ventures operating in Africa and encourages applicants working across sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, technology, climate action, infrastructure, financial services, energy access, and food security. The Foundation is seeking leaders who are building scalable initiatives capable of delivering measurable social impact and long-term transformation.
This year, up to $100,000 USD in funding will be distributed among one to four winners. In addition to supporting founders and co-founders, the 2026 edition has expanded eligibility to also recognize alumni leading impactful work within existing organizations across nonprofit, hybrid, and private sectors. Winners will receive funding support, continental visibility, mentorship opportunities, and recognition through the Mandela Rhodes Foundation network.
