FULLY FUNDED: Apply for the African Plant Nutrition Institute (APNI) Outreach Fellowship 2026

Applications are open for the African Plant Nutrition Institute (APNI) Outreach Fellowship 2026. This fellowship is designed to support scientists, extension specialists, and educators across Africa who are leading innovative outreach activities to improve soil fertility management and plant nutrition practices. Through this initiative, APNI seeks to strengthen sustainable agricultural systems by funding projects that promote knowledge sharing, farmer engagement, and the adoption of best practices in nutrient management throughout the continent.

The fellowship encourages proposals that address critical agricultural challenges and align with APNI’s priority areas, including 4R Nutrient Stewardship, soil health assessment, precision agriculture, nutrient and water management, and farmer-led innovations. Selected fellows will receive funding to implement impactful outreach programs that contribute to increased agricultural productivity and resilience across Africa.

Program Benefits
Selected fellows will receive a grant of USD 5,000 to support their proposed outreach activities. The funding may be used for organizing workshops and training sessions, developing educational materials, conducting travel related to outreach initiatives, synthesizing research findings, and implementing communication strategies aimed at improving the adoption of sustainable soil fertility practices. Fellows will also gain increased visibility within the agricultural community and have the opportunity to contribute significantly to sustainable development efforts across Africa.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be employed full-time by an African National Agricultural Research and Extension System (NARES), a university, a non-profit organization, or a private sector institution operating within Africa. Eligible candidates include scientists, extension professionals, and educators with a demonstrated interest in sustainable agriculture and outreach. Applicants must submit a comprehensive proposal outlining their intended activities and expected impact. Students are not eligible to apply for this fellowship.
Eligible Countries
The fellowship is open to applicants from all African countries. Individuals who are employed by eligible institutions across the continent and who meet the stated requirements are encouraged to submit applications regardless of their country of residence within Africa.
