FULLY FUNDED: Apply for the AWARD GROW Fellowship Program 2026

Applications are open for the Gender-Responsive and Women-Led Research and Development (GROW) Fellowship Program 2026, an initiative implemented by African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD). The fellowship is designed to strengthen gender-responsive breeding systems across sub-Saharan Africa by empowering women professionals in crop and livestock breeding. Through leadership development, technical training, mentoring, and networking, the program aims to accelerate the career advancement of women breeders while promoting inclusive agricultural innovation that better serves both women and men smallholder farmers across the continent.

Program Benefits
Successful fellows will participate in a fully funded, non-residential leadership development programme featuring leadership and negotiation skills training, structured mentoring, peer learning, technical training on gender-responsive breeding, knowledge-sharing forums, and networking opportunities with leading agricultural researchers across Africa. The fellowship is designed to enhance participants’ leadership capacity, scientific influence, and career progression while strengthening their ability to lead inclusive agricultural research and innovation.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be women who are citizens of any African country. They should hold at least a Master’s degree in plant or livestock breeding and be actively practicing in the field. Candidates must have a minimum of five years of experience in crop or livestock improvement research and be affiliated with a university, national agricultural research institution, private company, or another organization involved in crop improvement. Applicants should be available to participate fully in the two-year fellowship activities and must not be current beneficiaries of another AWARD fellowship.
Eligible Countries
The fellowship is open to women professionals from all African countries who meet the eligibility requirements. In addition, the institutional strengthening component supports selected research organizations and universities in Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, and Uganda.
