FULLY FUNDED: Apply For The Columbia Global Emerging Scholars Fellowship Program
Applications are open for the Columbia Global Emerging Scholars Fellowship Program, a fully funded academic fellowship implemented by Columbia Global Centers. The program is designed to support forcibly displaced scholars whose academic careers have been disrupted due to conflict, persecution, or instability. It provides selected fellows with the opportunity to continue their research, rebuild academic networks, and engage in scholarly activities within a supportive international environment while remaining connected to their regions.
The fellowship supports emerging scholars working in the humanities and humanistic social sciences, including interdisciplinary researchers, writers, artists, and curators whose work engages questions of culture, society, history, identity, and human experience. Fellows are hosted at one of Columbia University’s Global Centers and participate in research activities, workshops, public lectures, and collaborative projects that strengthen both their scholarship and professional visibility.

Additional Information
Fellows benefit from access to Columbia University’s global academic network, mentorship from established scholars, opportunities to present their work publicly, and participation in workshops, seminars, and collaborative research activities. The fellowship also offers a critical platform for displaced scholars to rebuild professional networks, enhance academic visibility, and contribute meaningfully to global scholarly conversations.
Eligible applicants must be emerging scholars in the humanities or humanistic social sciences. This includes researchers, academics, writers, artists, curators, and interdisciplinary scholars whose work is grounded in humanistic inquiry. Applicants are generally expected to hold a PhD in a relevant field; however, in exceptional cases, candidates who were on track to complete a PhD or who hold a non-terminal Master’s degree may be considered.
Applicants must have earned their highest academic degree within the past 12 years, with flexibility provided to account for career interruptions caused by displacement or other exceptional circumstances. Candidates must also demonstrate at least an intermediate level of English proficiency, as the fellowship’s academic activities and engagements are conducted in English.
Applicants are required to be based in the region of the Columbia Global Center to which they apply and must be able to participate in person at the host center for the duration of the fellowship, with a minimum in-person engagement of six months if full-time residence is not possible.
