Program Benefits

This is a fully funded programme that covers full tuition fees at UK universities, return airfare from the home country to the UK, and a monthly living stipend (£1,378 outside London and £1,690 in London). Additional benefits include a warm clothing allowance (where applicable), study travel grants, fieldwork funding, and one return economy airfare for mid-term visits home. Scholars who are married or have children are eligible for family allowances, and those with disabilities can receive further support to meet study-related needs.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must be citizens of or refugees from eligible Commonwealth LDCs or vulnerable states and be permanently resident in one of these countries. Candidates should be available to start full-time PhD study in the UK by September/October 2025. They must hold a first degree of at least an upper second-class (2:1) honours standard, or a lower second-class (2:2) degree with a relevant master’s qualification. Applicants must not be registered for a PhD, or an MPhil leading to a PhD, in their home country or elsewhere. Preference is given to those who demonstrate financial need and the ability to contribute to development impact in their home country after completing their studies.
