Applications are open for the Google Africa Applied AI Lab 2026, an exciting initiative by Google designed to support Africa’s most promising AI entrepreneurs and researchers. Based at the Accra AI Community Centre (AICC) in Ghana, the program aims to help founders transform innovative AI ideas into market-ready products that solve real-world challenges across Africa. Through direct collaboration with Google experts, participants will gain access to cutting-edge AI technologies, technical mentorship, and commercialization support to accelerate the growth of AI-native startups.

The Google Africa Applied AI Lab serves as a zero-to-one commercialization platform, connecting exceptional founders and researchers with Google Research, Google DeepMind, and leading venture capital partners. The program focuses on building AI solutions in key areas including the future of work, knowledge, software development, creativity, and entertainment. It culminates in a Demo Day where selected startups present their innovations to Googlers, investors, and strategic partners, creating opportunities for future investment and long-term collaboration. Program Benefits

Selected participants will receive early access to advanced Google DeepMind AI models, including Gemini, Gemma, and Veo, enabling them to build innovative AI applications before these technologies become widely available. They will also receive hands-on technical mentorship from Google Research and engineering teams, along with product development and go-to-market support tailored to their startup’s needs.

In addition, participants will have the opportunity to work closely with leading venture capital firms such as 4DX Ventures, Norrsken22, Novastar Ventures, and Ventures Platform. Some startups may also become eligible for investment through the Google AI Futures Fund and its VC partners. The program does not require participants to give up equity simply for joining, although funding opportunities may arise during or after the program. (Google Labs⁠)

Eligibility Criteria

The program is open to founders from across Africa who are building AI-powered startups, as well as top researchers who are ready to become startup founders. Applicants should have ambitious ideas capable of addressing meaningful challenges on the continent using artificial intelligence. While preference is given to startups with existing commercial traction and funding, ranging from pre-seed to Series A, Google welcomes applications from founders and researchers at all stages who demonstrate strong technical capability, a compelling vision, and a clear plan for building impactful AI solutions.

Participants are expected to integrate Google AI technologies in a meaningful way within their products, although there is no exclusivity requirement. Teams may continue using other AI models alongside Google’s technologies. Selected participants must also commit to attending the in-person Demo Day in early December at the Accra AI Community Centre in Ghana. (Google Labs⁠)
