Applications are open for the Google Play Africa Indie Games Fund 2026, a new initiative by Google Play aimed at supporting the growth of Africa’s game development ecosystem. Selected studios will receive a share of the US$1 million equity-free fund, allowing them to grow their businesses without giving up ownership. In addition to financial support, recipients will benefit from hands-on mentorship and technical guidance from Google Play experts to strengthen their products, improve business strategies, and expand their market reach.
Participants will also gain increased visibility within the global gaming ecosystem, access to Google’s developer resources, and opportunities to connect with industry professionals who can support the long-term growth of their studios. (DMarket Forces)

Eligibility Criteria

The programme is open to independent game studios that are legally registered in one of the 32 eligible African countries. Eligible studios must have no more than 50 employees and should already have at least one game published on Google Play or another platform, including PC, console, or other mobile app stores. Applicants should demonstrate strong growth potential and a commitment to expanding their game business.
Studios applying for the fund must also be willing to use the funding to further develop and grow their games on Google Play. Google welcomes applications from innovative developers creating engaging gaming experiences that have the potential to reach wider audiences both within Africa and internationally. (Pocket Gamer)
