FULLY FUNDED: Apply for the Ireland Fellows Programme – Africa 2026/2027

Applications are open for the 2026/2027 Ireland Fellows Programme – Africa. Funded by the Government of Ireland through the Department of Foreign Affairs, this prestigious fellowship offers early to mid-career professionals from eligible African countries the opportunity to pursue a fully funded one-year master’s degree at a recognized higher education institution in Ireland. The programme aims to develop future leaders by equipping participants with advanced knowledge and skills that contribute to sustainable development and capacity building in their home countries.

The fellowship supports talented professionals with demonstrated leadership potential and a commitment to contributing to national development. Fellows study in Ireland for between 10 and 16 months, depending on their chosen master’s programme, before returning to apply their newly acquired expertise in their respective fields. The programme also fosters lasting professional and cultural links between Ireland and participating countries.

Program Benefits
The Ireland Fellows Programme is fully funded. Successful applicants receive full tuition fees, economy-class return flights between their home country and Ireland, visa application fees, medical and travel insurance, and the Irish residence permit fee.

In addition, fellows receive a monthly living stipend, accommodation support, a settling-in allowance upon arrival, and a completion allowance at the end of the programme. Participants also benefit from studying at leading Irish universities, leadership development opportunities, networking with international professionals, and becoming part of the Ireland Fellows alumni community.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be resident nationals of an eligible African country and possess a bachelor’s degree from a government-recognized higher education institution with a strong academic record, normally a minimum GPA equivalent to 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Candidates should have at least two to three years of substantial and directly relevant work experience, depending on their country of residence.

Applicants must demonstrate leadership potential, a commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and a clear plan to use the knowledge gained to contribute to the development of their home country upon completion of the programme. They must also meet the English language requirements of their chosen university and satisfy all programme-specific admission criteria.
