FULLY FUNDED: Apply for the Islamic Development Bank undergraduate, masters and PhD scholarship Programme 2026/27

Applications have opened for the 2026/2027 Islamic Development Bank undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral scholarship opportunities. The programme reflects the institution’s long-standing belief that skilled and educated people are essential for social progress and long-term development. From its early years, the Bank placed strong emphasis on nurturing talent alongside its core development financing work, recognizing education as a foundation for sustainable growth.

In response to the pressing need to strengthen human capacity within Muslim populations living in countries outside its membership, the Bank introduced an undergraduate scholarship initiative in 1983 known as the Scholarship Program for Muslim Communities. This initiative was designed to expand access to higher education for deserving students who lacked financial means but demonstrated strong academic potential.

Building on more than ten years of experience gained through this programme, the Bank later established a merit-based scholarship scheme in 1992 aimed at supporting doctoral studies and post-doctoral research in applied sciences and advanced technologies. This initiative sought to enhance research strength, innovation, and technological competence within institutions across member countries. Recognizing that many least developed member states were unable to benefit fully from this advanced programme, a master’s level scholarship in science was introduced in 1998 to serve as a preparatory pathway and broaden participation.

Under the Bank’s realigned strategy for 2023 to 2025, a dedicated focus has been placed on inclusive and comprehensive human capital development. Through this strategic direction, they aim to assist member countries and Muslim communities in non-member states in overcoming development challenges through targeted capacity-building efforts, including expanded scholarship offerings. These initiatives form a key part of their broader mission to foster economic growth and shared prosperity by investing in education and skills development worldwide.

Among the opportunities available is a scholarship scheme supported by the Islamic Development Bank and the Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development, targeting students from least developed member countries pursuing bachelor’s degrees or technical diplomas. This programme is intended for talented young individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, enabling them to study scientific and social fields that can uplift their living standards and empower them to contribute meaningfully to national development.

They also offer a master’s scholarship in science and technology specifically designed for least developed member countries. This initiative focuses on equipping graduates with practical and relevant expertise needed to support economic transformation and technological advancement in their home countries.

In addition, advanced study opportunities are available through a merit-based scholarship in high-technology fields for students from member countries, as well as a dedicated programme supporting Muslim communities residing in non-member nations. Together, these scholarships reflect a comprehensive approach to developing knowledge, skills, and leadership for future generations.
