Applications have officially opened for the 2026 intake of the Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program. This opportunity is designed for nationals of selected developing nations who possess meaningful professional experience and have demonstrated commitment to contributing to the social and economic progress of their home countries. The program supports applicants seeking admission into master’s degrees focused on development-related fields.
Depending on the availability of funds, the scholarship covers study opportunities across 44 approved master’s programs offered by 24 universities located in regions such as North America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, and Japan. These programs concentrate on critical development sectors including public policy, fiscal systems, economic governance, and infrastructure planning.
To be eligible, applicants must be citizens of a World Bank-recognized developing country and must not possess citizenship of any developed nation. Candidates are expected to be in sound health and to have completed an undergraduate degree or its equivalent at least three years before the application deadline. In addition, applicants must be actively engaged in paid, full-time work within a development-related field at the time of application, with a minimum of three years of relevant professional experience gained within the past six years.
Successful candidates receive comprehensive financial support. The scholarship covers round-trip economy airfare between the scholar’s home country and the host institution, along with a travel stipend of 600 US dollars for each journey. It also pays full tuition fees and basic health insurance arranged through the university. Throughout the study period, scholars are provided with a monthly living allowance to help meet essential costs such as housing, meals, and learning materials, with the amount determined by the cost of living in the host country.
