Applications are open for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of British Columbia, offering talented young people from Sub-Saharan Africa the chance to pursue fully funded graduate studies in Canada. Participants in the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at UBC receive comprehensive support that covers tuition fees, accommodation, living expenses, health insurance, books, flights, and immigration assistance, ensuring that financial barriers do not hinder their studies. Scholars also gain access to mentorship, career guidance, leadership training, and a global network of alumni, which helps them develop professionally and personally. Additionally, they may apply for the Social Entrepreneurship Fund to support ventures addressing challenges in their home countries, giving them practical experience in creating positive social impact and preparing them to contribute meaningfully to their communities after graduation.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at UBC is open to young, academically talented individuals from Sub-Saharan African countries who have completed a Bachelor’s degree and do not already hold a Master’s or PhD. Applicants must be 35 years old or younger at the time of application and demonstrate leadership potential, a commitment to their communities, and the ability to overcome significant challenges. Candidates must meet the academic requirements of their chosen graduate program and, if their previous education was not in English, provide proof of English proficiency through tests such as TOEFL or IELTS. Applicants must also be able to obtain a Canadian study permit and intend to return to their home countries after completing their studies.
