Applications are open for the McGill University Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program 2026, a prestigious fully funded master’s scholarship designed to empower talented young leaders from Africa. The programme supports academically outstanding individuals who have demonstrated leadership potential, a commitment to community service, and a desire to contribute to the sustainable development of their home countries. Through a partnership between McGill University and the Mastercard Foundation, scholars receive world-class education, leadership development, mentorship, and comprehensive financial support while pursuing graduate studies in Canada.

The programme focuses on developing the next generation of African changemakers in fields including sustainable agriculture, public health, nutrition, public policy, biotechnology, environmental engineering, and related disciplines. The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program provides comprehensive financial support covering full international tuition fees, on-campus accommodation, pre-arrival and immigration assistance, a monthly living stipend, academic books and learning resources, and leadership development opportunities. Scholars also receive mentorship, entrepreneurship training, career support, and access to a global network of Mastercard Foundation Scholars and alumni committed to driving positive change across Africa. Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must be citizens of and currently reside in an African country. They must not have previously enrolled in or completed a master’s degree and must be eligible for admission to one of the participating master’s programmes at McGill University. Candidates should be 35 years of age or younger at the time of application, possess an outstanding academic record, demonstrate exceptional leadership and community engagement, show a strong commitment to returning home to contribute to national development, and provide evidence that financial barriers have limited their educational opportunities. Applicants must also hold a valid passport and be eligible to obtain a Canadian study permit. Priority is given to women, refugees and displaced persons, and applicants living with disabilities. The scholarship is open to citizens and residents of all African countries, including Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Ethiopia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and every other country on the African continent. (⁠McGill University)
