Applications are open for the NourishNext West Africa Youth Agrifood Innovation Challenge 2026. Led by the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) in partnership with the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement and national implementing partners, the initiative seeks to identify and accelerate youth-led innovations that strengthen nutritious fruit and vegetable value chains across West Africa. The challenge aims to support scalable solutions that improve food systems, reduce post-harvest losses, and promote healthier diets across the region.

Program Benefits
Selected finalists will receive a USD 5,000 equity-free seed grant to strengthen their innovations. Participants will also benefit from tailored mentorship from experts in nutrition, agrifood systems, business development, and finance. Additional benefits include capacity-building opportunities, access to national and regional networking platforms, media exposure, and the opportunity to showcase their solutions at the NourishNext West Africa Regional Showcase in Dakar, Senegal. Winners will also gain access to post-competition support and broader innovation ecosystems supported by GAIN and its partners.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be between 18 and 35 years old, with the upper age limit extended to 40 years for women-led enterprises. The challenge is open to youth-led enterprises, startups, cooperatives, and civil society organizations. Innovations must be beyond the idea stage and should have at least a functional prototype, proof of concept, or minimum viable product (MVP). Solutions should address one of the competition categories and directly support fruit and vegetable value chains. Formal business registration is not mandatory.
Eligible Countries
The program is open to applicants based in and primarily operating in Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Nigeria, and Senegal. Participants must be actively implementing their innovations in one or more of these countries.
