Applications are open for the University of Michigan African Faculty Fellowship 2027. The Eric and Wendy Schmidt AI in Science African Faculty Fellows Program supports outstanding researchers based at African universities and research institutions who are interested in applying artificial intelligence methodologies to solve significant scientific and engineering challenges. Fellows will spend one year at the University of Michigan in the United States and another year at their home institution in Africa, building sustainable research collaborations and advancing AI-driven innovation across the continent. The fellowship is designed to support early- and mid-career faculty members whose work aligns with areas such as engineering, physical sciences, mathematics, earth and environmental sciences, and selected biological sciences. During the program, fellows will participate in AI training opportunities, collaborative research activities, and professional development initiatives while working closely with University of Michigan faculty hosts. The program also aims to strengthen AI in Science capacity across Africa by supporting long-term institutional and regional impact. (Midas)
