FULLY FUNDED: Apply For The WACSI Next Generation Internship Programme 2026 (Accra, Ghana)

Applications are open for the West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) Next Generation Internship Programme 2026, a fully funded and highly competitive opportunity designed to empower young African graduates and early-career professionals with practical experience in civil society and development work. This six-month internship provides participants with hands-on exposure to key areas such as capacity development, policy influencing and advocacy, and knowledge management, equipping them with the skills needed to contribute meaningfully to governance and sustainable development across West Africa. 

Through this immersive programme, selected interns will actively engage in research, policy discussions, programme implementation, and organizational learning processes at WACSI’s headquarters in Accra, Ghana. The initiative aims to nurture a new generation of civic leaders by strengthening their professional competencies, critical thinking, and understanding of development issues affecting the region.

Program Benefits
The WACSI Next Generation Internship Programme is fully funded and provides comprehensive support to ensure participants can fully focus on their professional development. Selected interns will receive round-trip airfare from their home country to Ghana, fully furnished accommodation throughout the internship period, and daily lunch on working days.

In addition, interns are provided with a monthly stipend to cover personal expenses, making this a financially accessible opportunity for eligible candidates. Beyond financial support, participants gain invaluable exposure to real-world policy processes, mentorship from experienced professionals, and the chance to contribute directly to impactful development initiatives across West Africa. 
Eligibility Criteria
This opportunity is specifically targeted at young graduates and early-career professionals from selected West African countries. Applicants must come from Ivory Coast, Guinea Bissau, or Sierra Leone and should demonstrate a strong commitment to civil society, governance, and development work. Candidates are expected to hold at least a first degree in relevant fields such as international affairs, political science, public policy, law, development studies, or other related disciplines.

In addition, applicants should possess strong research, communication, and analytical skills, as well as a genuine interest in non-profit management and policy advocacy. Language proficiency is also important, with preference given to candidates who are fluent in English, French, or Portuguese and have working knowledge of another language.
