Applications are open for the 2026 Council of Europe World Forum for Democracy Call for Initiatives, a prestigious global opportunity inviting innovators, civil society actors, youth-led groups, public institutions, social enterprises, researchers, and changemakers to present groundbreaking democratic initiatives at one of the world’s leading platforms for democratic dialogue. The 14th edition of the forum will take place in Strasbourg from 2–4 November 2026, bringing together participants from around the world to exchange ideas, showcase solutions, and contribute to strengthening democracy globally. Selected initiatives will be featured at the forum, where participants can engage directly with policymakers, activists, and experts while gaining international visibility. Travel and accommodation support is provided for selected presenters, making this a fully funded opportunity.

Selected initiatives will be invited to present at the World Forum for Democracy in Strasbourg before an international audience of leaders, policymakers, civil society actors, and democracy innovators. One representative of selected initiatives may receive travel and accommodation support funded by organizers, making participation fully funded where required. Eligibility Criteria

This opportunity is open to public and private organizations, civil society groups, youth-led initiatives, academic institutions, social enterprises, grassroots movements, and innovators from around the world working on initiatives that strengthen democracy and contribute to sustainable peace. Applicants should propose innovative, practical, and impactful initiatives that respond to democratic challenges and can inspire replication or scaling in other contexts. Initiatives can be local, national, regional, or global in scope, as long as they demonstrate relevance to democratic innovation and citizen participation. Both established organizations and emerging initiatives are encouraged to apply. The call is particularly suitable for those with tested ideas or ongoing projects that can be showcased as solutions for democratic renewal.

Eligible Countries

Open globally — applicants from all countries are eligible to apply, including initiatives from Africa, Asia, Europe, the Americas, Oceania, and the Middle East. The call welcomes democracy innovations from anywhere in the world.
