Applications are open for the 2026 Young Trade Leaders Programme organized by the World Trade Organization (WTO). This global initiative aims to engage young people who are passionate about international trade and empower them to contribute fresh ideas on how trade can benefit people, communities, and the planet. The programme brings together a diverse group of young leaders from around the world who are interested in global economic issues and provides them with opportunities to interact with experts, participate in discussions, and promote understanding of international trade in their communities.

Through the programme, selected participants will collaborate with the WTO and a global network of young leaders to raise awareness about the role of trade in sustainable development. Participants will also share innovative perspectives on how international trade can contribute to inclusive growth and environmental sustainability while gaining exposure to global trade policymaking processes.

Participants selected for the Young Trade Leaders Programme will gain valuable exposure to global trade discussions and access to learning opportunities organized by the WTO. They will receive guidance and mentorship from experts in international trade and will become part of a global network of young leaders interested in shaping conversations around trade policy and economic development.

The programme also provides opportunities for participants to attend training sessions and collaborate with other Young Trade Leaders on initiatives that promote understanding of international trade. Selected participants will be invited to attend the WTO Public Forum in Geneva, Switzerland, where they will engage with policymakers, experts, and stakeholders involved in international trade discussions. Travel support is provided for participation in the Public Forum.

Eligibility Criteria

The programme is open to young individuals from around the world who demonstrate a strong interest in international trade and global economic policy. Applicants must be between 18 and 28 years old at the time of application and should show clear motivation to contribute to discussions on trade and sustainable development. Candidates are expected to demonstrate leadership potential, creativity, and the ability to communicate ideas effectively within their communities and networks.

Applicants should also be able to commit time to participate in programme activities for the full duration of the initiative. Since the programme focuses on promoting trade awareness and engagement, applicants should show a willingness to organize activities, discussions, or outreach initiatives that help others better understand global trade issues.
