FULLY FUNDED TO ABU DHABI, UAE: Apply for the IRENA Youth Forum 2026 for young climate and energy changemakers and activists
Applications are now open for the IRENA Youth Forum 2026, the eighth edition of the International Renewable Energy Agency’s premier platform dedicated to empowering young people and driving innovation in the renewable energy sector. Set to take place in Abu Dhabi, the Forum will run under the theme “Youth Innovation and Digital Solutions: From AI to Access in Renewable Energy”. This year’s focus highlights how youth around the world are harnessing artificial intelligence, digital tools, and innovative business models to expand renewable energy access and accelerate a just, inclusive energy transition.
The Forum will bring together youth leaders, government representatives, private sector actors, academia, and international organizations to co-create solutions that address the challenges of the global energy transition. It will serve as a unique space where the voices of young people are amplified in shaping energy and climate policy, while also equipping them with the skills, resources, and partnerships needed to scale their initiatives. A key element of the gathering will be exploring how young innovators can access financing opportunities to support their renewable energy projects and ideas.
Scheduled for 8–9 January in Abu Dhabi, the Youth Forum will feature a high-level opening session and a series of interactive workshops designed to foster meaningful dialogue and collaboration. The programme will conclude on 10 January with a closing session during the Sixteenth IRENA Assembly at the St. Regis Saadiyat Island. In addition to the core sessions, selected participants will take part in youth-led activities, including a dedicated booth and lounge at the St. Regis, as well as the IRENA Pavilion at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week at ADNEC.
Young leaders selected for the Forum will gain invaluable exposure to the international renewable energy policy landscape and engage directly with decision-makers, innovators, and peers from across the globe. They will also collaborate in developing the Youth Forum Outcome Statement, which will be presented at the Seventeenth IRENA Assembly. Beyond the event, participants will be connected to IRENA’s broader youth-focused initiatives, including the NewGen Renewable Energy Accelerator and the Energy Transition Education Network.
The call is open to individuals aged 18 to 35 who are actively engaged in renewable energy, sustainability, innovation, or related fields. Ideal applicants are those leading or contributing to projects, startups, research, or advocacy efforts that advance the energy transition. Applicants should also demonstrate motivation to work collaboratively with peers and partners to amplify their impact on a global scale.
