FULLY FUNDED TO NAIROBI, KENYA AND TURIN, ITALY: Apply for the Hack the Divide youth hackathon for young innovators and changemakers from Africa

Applications are open for young African innovators eager to leverage technology to create inclusive solutions that expand access to work, training, and opportunities. #HackTheDivide invites digital entrepreneurs aged 18-35 from 25 African countries to participate in a transformative two-day hackathon in Nairobi, with the chance to continue their journey through a tailored incubation program in Italy. Selected participants will collaborate in teams, receive mentorship from industry experts, and engage with global institutions and policy leaders shaping Africa’s digital future. Travel, accommodation, and meals will be fully covered.

During the hackathon, participants will co-develop innovative solutions addressing pressing challenges such as youth employment, digital inclusion, and labour mobility. The event culminates with a live presentation during the broadcast of Skills for Fair Digital Transitions in Africa in Turin, connecting participants to key decision-makers in Italy and linking local innovation to global policy discussions. One outstanding team will be chosen for an exclusive incubation experience with I3P, Italy’s leading tech incubator, including a funded trip to Italy and access to the Italian innovation ecosystem.

The hackathon focuses on six thematic areas where digital innovation can drive meaningful change. These include improving technical and vocational training to meet labour market demands, creating fairer opportunities for labour mobility and migration, supporting entrepreneurship and business growth, applying AI for inclusive public good, promoting gender equality and inclusion in the transition to formal work, and empowering local communities and governments through technology. Each participant will join a team to co-create solutions aligned with these priority areas, leveraging diverse skills and experiences.

Young innovators from countries including Algeria, Angola, Burkina Faso, Chad, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Mozambique, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda are encouraged to apply. Whether you are already developing digital solutions for skills development, employment, or business growth, or working in areas like education, digital inclusion, fintech, or data innovation, this is your opportunity to make an impact. Ideal candidates demonstrate relevant experience, a strong commitment to inclusion, potential for meaningful impact, and availability to participate fully in the Nairobi hackathon on 7–8 October 2025.

At the end of the event, teams will present their ideas to a panel of experts, with the winning team selected for the incubation program based on the relevance, quality, and potential of their solution. The prize includes a fully funded trip to Italy, ongoing mentorship, and full access to Italy’s vibrant innovation ecosystem to further develop the winning idea.
