FULLY FUNDED TO UK: Apply for the Gates Cambridge Scholarship Programme 2026-2026 for students across the world

Applications are now open for the 2026/2027 Gates Cambridge Scholarship Programme. Each year, this prestigious award supports around 80 exceptional candidates from outside the United Kingdom to undertake postgraduate studies in any subject offered at the University of Cambridge. Roughly two-thirds of the scholarships are allocated to doctoral students, while the remainder is shared between applicants in the U.S. round (about 25 scholarships) and the international round (about 55 scholarships).

The programme is highly competitive, with selection based on academic excellence, clarity of purpose in choosing a particular course, demonstrated commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others, and proven leadership qualities. At any given time, approximately 250 Gates Cambridge Scholars from nearly 50 different countries are enrolled at the University. These scholars study across a wide variety of departments and Colleges, while also contributing to a vibrant, close-knit community of their own.

Eligibility is open to applicants from all countries outside the UK who are applying to study at Cambridge for a PhD (full-time or part-time), a full-time MLitt, or a one-year full-time postgraduate programme, with certain exceptions. For October 2024 entry, the Trust has continued its pilot scheme which permits applicants to pursue part-time doctoral studies with scholarship support.

A Gates Cambridge Scholarship provides complete financial coverage for study at Cambridge, along with access to additional support when needed. The award covers the full university tuition fee, a living allowance for single students (£21,000 for 12 months at the 2024–25 rate, renewable for up to four years for PhD candidates), one return economy flight, visa application expenses, and the cost of the Immigration Health Surcharge. Tuition fee amounts vary depending on the type of student and course, and those who receive external funding from public bodies such as UKRI may have their costs shared or partially covered by the Trust.

Beyond these core benefits, scholars may apply for additional discretionary funding to help enrich their academic journey. This includes grants for professional development, ranging from £500 to £2,000 depending on course length, to attend conferences and specialized training. Support is also available for students with dependent children, offering up to £11,604 for one child and £16,548 for two or more children at the 2024–25 rate, though partners are not covered. Doctoral scholars may continue receiving their living stipend while undertaking fieldwork that is part of their research. Provisions also exist for maternity or paternity leave, allowing students to pause studies for up to six months while continuing to receive financial support. Additionally, hardship funds are available for scholars who encounter unexpected financial challenges during their time at Cambridge.
