The Summer Student Fellowship at WHOI offers a unique opportunity for undergraduate students to gain hands-on experience in ocean science, oceanographic engineering, or marine policy. If you are an undergraduate student who will have completed your junior year by the start of the fellowship and are interested in pursuing research in these fields, this program could be a valuable step in your academic and professional journey.

Program Highlights:

Financial Support:

Stipend: $700 per week for the 10-12 week program.
Travel allowance: $700 for round-trip travel to Woods Hole.
Housing: Provided by WHOI, typically in shared rooms.
Eligibility Criteria
Undergraduate students who will have completed their junior year by the start of the fellowship (students graduating before the fellowship begins are not eligible).
Students studying in fields such as biology, chemistry, engineering, geology, geophysics, mathematics, meteorology, physics, oceanography, and marine policy.
At least a tentative interest in ocean sciences or marine policy is required.
Members of underrepresented groups in ocean science and engineering are strongly encouraged to apply.
Students in specific academic programs (e.g., three-year Bachelor's, five-year combined Bachelor's/Master's) should meet the criteria listed for their respective year of study.
