Applications are open for the 2027 EDGE Fellowship, a prestigious global conservation programme designed to support early-career conservationists working to protect some of the world’s most unique and threatened species. The fellowship is offered through the EDGE of Existence Programme of the Zoological Society of London (ZSL) and focuses on conservation projects involving Evolutionarily Distinct and Globally Endangered (EDGE) species. Program Type
Fully Funded
Program Benefits
Selected fellows will participate in a comprehensive 28-month fellowship programme that combines conservation leadership training, project development support, mentorship, and funding. Participants will receive six weeks of in-person training, ongoing technical support, professional development opportunities, and access to a global network of conservation experts and fellow researchers. Each fellow will also receive a grant of £15,000 GBP to support the implementation of their conservation project. The programme is designed to strengthen leadership capacity while helping fellows deliver measurable conservation outcomes for endangered species.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants should be early-career conservationists who are committed to leading conservation action for an eligible EDGE species. Candidates must be nationals or long-term residents of the country where their proposed conservation project will be implemented and should have strong connections to the local area where the work will take place. Applicants must demonstrate a genuine conservation need for their proposed project and show a clear commitment to protecting biodiversity and endangered species. Projects must focus on species listed as eligible under the EDGE Fellowship programme. The fellowship particularly encourages applications from regions with high biodiversity importance and limited conservation support.
Eligible Countries
The fellowship is open to applicants from countries where eligible EDGE species occur. Priority is given to conservationists from lower- and middle-income countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, and other biodiversity-rich regions where local conservation leadership is most needed. Applicants must be working in the country where their proposed conservation project will be implemented.
