Applications are open for the African Leadership Centre Associate Fellowship in Peace, Security and Development for African Students for the 2026/2027 academic year. This prestigious opportunity is offered by the African Leadership Centre (ALC) in partnership with King’s College London and is designed for young African leaders who are passionate about peacebuilding, leadership, security, and development across the African continent. The fellowship supports students enrolling in the MSc Global Leadership and Peacebuilding programme at King’s College London and combines academic study with mentorship, policy engagement, and professional exposure.  

The African Leadership Centre was established to build a new generation of transformative African leaders capable of influencing peace, security, and development policy through innovative research, critical thinking, and practical engagement. The fellowship provides scholars with access to a strong network of African experts, institutions, and practitioners working on leadership and governance issues. Fellows will also participate in mentoring sessions, simulations, institutional visits, and policy-oriented learning experiences designed to strengthen their leadership capacity.

Program Benefits
Successful applicants will receive a bursary covering 25% of the tuition fees for the MSc Global Leadership and Peacebuilding programme at King’s College London. In addition, fellows will receive £5,000 to support living expenses while studying in London.

Beyond financial support, fellows benefit from an intensive mentoring and leadership development programme that includes group mentoring, peer-to-peer sessions, simulations, institutional visits, and engagement with leading African scholars and practitioners. The programme also offers an optional paid six-month attachment after graduation at a leading African university, regional organization, or centre of excellence, giving fellows practical experience and professional exposure in the field of peace and development.

Participants also gain access to a growing network of African leaders and researchers working on peace, security, and development across the continent and globally.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be citizens of an African country and should be applying for the MSc Global Leadership and Peacebuilding programme at King’s College London for the 2026/2027 academic year. The programme is only available for full-time study. Candidates are expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to leadership, peacebuilding, security, and development issues affecting Africa. The fellowship particularly seeks individuals who are passionate about transforming their societies and contributing to policy and academic discussions in Africa.

Applicants should also demonstrate commitment to the values of the African Leadership Centre, including excellence, integrity, independent thinking, respect for diversity, youth agency, and African-led approaches to development and peacebuilding. The programme is suitable for young Africans pursuing careers in research, academia, policy, governance, development, or international affairs.
