Program Benefits
The Rhodes Scholarship is fully funded and covers all University of Oxford tuition fees as well as a generous annual stipend to cover living expenses during the scholar’s studies. Scholars also receive funding for travel to and from the United Kingdom at the beginning and end of their studies. In addition, the scholarship covers the Oxford application fee and the UK Immigration Health Surcharge, allowing access to the National Health Service throughout the period of study. Scholars may also access additional research and conference grants where eligible.

Beyond financial support, Rhodes Scholars become part of a lifelong international community of exceptional leaders, innovators, policymakers, researchers, entrepreneurs, and change-makers. The program provides extensive leadership development opportunities, networking events, mentorship, and access to a global alumni network that continues long after graduation.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be citizens of Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, South Sudan, or Burundi. Candidates should also have been resident in one or more of these countries, or in Kenya, for at least five of the last ten years. Kenyan citizens are not eligible under the East Africa constituency and should apply through the Kenya Rhodes Scholarship constituency instead.

Applicants must meet the age requirements. They should either be aged between 18 and 24 years on 1 October 2026 (born after 1 October 2001 and before 2 October 2008), or be under 27 years of age on 1 October 2026 and have completed their first undergraduate degree on or after 1 July 2025 if they completed their degree later than usual.

Candidates must have completed, or be expected to complete, an undergraduate degree by July 2027. They should possess an outstanding academic record that meets or exceeds the entry requirements for their chosen full-time course at the University of Oxford. Successful applicants typically have a First Class Honours degree or equivalent academic performance, such as a GPA of 3.7/4.0 or higher, or its equivalent. Applicants must also meet Oxford University’s English language requirements or qualify for an English language test waiver where applicable.
