FUNDED: Apply to attend the Youth Sustainable Development Conference 2025 in Nairobi for young Kenyans youth and changemakers

Applications are now open for young people based in Kenya to take part in the 2025 Youth Sustainable Development Conference (YSDC), set to take place from August 12 to 14 in Nairobi. This three-day event is designed to bring together 200 to 300 passionate youth leaders from across the continent who are committed to driving meaningful environmental and social change. With the theme “Empowering Youth for a Sustainable Future: Innovate, Collaborate, Transform,” the conference offers an engaging platform for learning, action, and long-term impact.

YSDC is organized by the Youth Sustainable Development Network (YSDN) and has grown into one of Africa’s most influential gatherings for young people advancing sustainability. Since its launch in 2019, the conference has welcomed over 1,200 participants, featured more than 100 expert speakers, and facilitated 60+ interactive panels and 20 skill-building workshops. Past editions have led to the creation of major initiatives that continue to make a difference in local communities. The 2025 edition aims to build on this success by offering delegates the practical tools and connections needed to implement their own solutions.

Participants will take part in a wide range of experiences including workshops, keynote presentations, real-world problem-solving, and community-building sessions. Case challenges will allow teams to propose practical solutions to current sustainability issues, with the best ideas receiving financial support and mentorship to turn concepts into action. These challenges are designed not just to teach but to create change that extends far beyond the conference.

Delegates will also be introduced to career opportunities in green industries, including renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and environmental conservation. Partnering organizations will offer pathways to internships, jobs, and recognized training programs, helping young people transition into meaningful work in sustainability sectors. Those with business ideas will benefit from the Green Accelerator Program, which provides mentoring, startup resources, and access to a network of industry leaders. Several successful ventures have emerged from previous editions, built in collaboration with groups such as Solar Stewards and Panta Group.

In addition to building skills and launching projects, the event provides a platform for youth to shape public policy. Delegates will join discussions with policymakers and contribute to the development of policy recommendations, which will be shared with regional and national decision-makers following the conference. These youth-informed proposals aim to influence how sustainability is prioritized in African governance.

The program also emphasizes peer learning, drawing on the experiences of over 50 youth-led initiatives that have come out of past YSDC gatherings. These projects address critical challenges like energy access, waste reduction, and climate adaptation, and serve as models for what is possible when youth are supported to lead.

Nairobi, often referred to as the “Silicon Savannah,” offers the perfect backdrop for the event. As a hub for innovation and a leader in sustainable development efforts, Kenya is a fitting host for a gathering focused on youth-driven solutions. With its strategic position and commitment to both Agenda 2030 and Agenda 2063, the city provides an inspiring setting for Africa’s next generation of change agents.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and only selected participants will be contacted. Young people living in Kenya who are ready to contribute to sustainable development are encouraged to apply and become part of a growing movement that is shaping the continent’s future.
