Nominate yourself for the open for Freedom Prize (7th Edition)
The Freedom Prize is inviting young individuals, aged 15 to 25, from France and across the globe to nominate an inspiring person or organization that has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to the fight for freedom.
Inspired by the ideals of the D-Day landings in Normandy on June 6, 1944, the Freedom Prize is an educational program designed to increase public knowledge of freedom, peace, and human rights.
The fact that young people are involved in all phases of this prize, from the submission of proposals to the international panel of judges to the ultimate choice of the laureate, is what makes it so unique.
The Normandy Region organised the Freedom Prize, which is being carried out in collaboration with the International Institute of Human Rights and Peace, academic authorities in Normandy, and the Canopé network. It honours all those who have battled and will continue to battle for this ideal.
Stages:
The Freedom Prize follows three main stages throughout the school year:
1. Call for Proposals “Our Freedom Prize 2025”: Young people aged 15-25 are invited to nominate a person or organization whose recent fight for freedom they want to highlight using an online form. Participants, working in groups, propose a candidate and defend their recent efforts in the fight for freedom. The nominee can be well-known or lesser-known but must have taken concrete action in the last three years. One of the nominations will be awarded the Freedom Prize.
2. Deliberations of the International Panel of Judges: A panel of 24 international judges, aged 15 to 25, will meet in Normandy to review the nominations. They will select three nominees whose fight they believe best represents the spirit of freedom in 2025. The selection will also reflect the diversity of international youth. Judges should be proficient in either French or English. From February 12 to 16, 2024, the jury will convene at the Caen Memorial to evaluate 512 nominations and choose the top three candidates for the Freedom Prize.
3. Online Vote: An online vote invites young people aged 15-25 from around the world to select the laureate from the three nominees chosen by the international jury.
Don't miss out on the application deadline which is 15 October 2024.
