PAID FELLOWSHIP: Apply for the DAWN Fellowship for young women feminists from the global south countries
DAWN Feminist has opened applications for a unique opportunity aimed at supporting young feminist women from the Global South in developing and executing innovative projects. This initiative provides a platform for emerging feminists to explore themes related to gender-based violence and conflict through research, advocacy, mobilization, resistance, or creative expression. By amplifying their voices and perspectives, the program seeks to foster critical engagement with these pressing issues, ensuring that feminist viewpoints gain traction both locally and internationally.
With a specific focus on the political economy of gender-based violence and conflict, the fellowship is designed for young feminists who have demonstrated a strong commitment to advancing gender justice and women’s rights. Participants will have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of how violence and conflict shape societal gender dynamics, while simultaneously elevating feminist narratives in public discourse. Proposed projects must align with this central theme, ensuring they contribute to a broader analysis of structural inequalities, power imbalances, and systemic forms of violence affecting women and marginalized communities.
This initiative aims to empower young feminist activists by providing them with the resources and space needed to conduct groundbreaking work. Selected fellows will receive financial support to help them carry out their projects effectively. In addition to financial backing, they will gain access to a wide network of experienced feminist researchers, advocates, and activists who will offer mentorship and guidance throughout the fellowship. Participants will also have the chance to share their findings through DAWN’s platform, expanding the reach and impact of their work on both national and international levels.
Each fellow will receive a monthly stipend of $1,200 for a duration of ten months. These funds can be allocated toward various project-related expenses, including research materials, travel costs, and living expenses. In return, participants are expected to deliver concrete outcomes agreed upon with DAWN, ensuring the completion of all project deliverables within the stipulated timeframes. Additionally, fellows will have opportunities to present their work at DAWN-hosted events and register their outputs under Creative Commons, making their research accessible to broader audiences. Regular progress reports, both midterm and final, will be required to track developments and assess the impact of each project.
The opportunity is open exclusively to women feminists under the age of 40 who originate from the Global South. Applicants must exhibit a strong dedication to feminist principles and approaches, demonstrating a clear vision for how their projects will contribute to gender justice. Submissions can take various forms, including research, advocacy efforts, grassroots mobilization, resistance initiatives, or artistic and creative expressions.
A selection committee will carefully review all applications, assessing them based on their relevance to the program’s core theme, feasibility, originality, and potential for impact. Shortlisted candidates may be invited for an interview to further elaborate on their proposals and discuss how they plan to execute their projects. By fostering knowledge production and elevating feminist discourse on gender-based violence and conflict, this initiative aims to create lasting change while equipping young feminists with the tools they need to challenge oppressive structures and advocate for transformative justice.
