Applications are open for the position of Digital Communications Officer at Climate Action Network International (CAN-I), the secretariat of one of the world’s largest civil society coalitions advocating for climate justice. With a membership of over 1,900 organisations in nearly 130 countries, CAN is deeply rooted in the understanding that climate justice is inseparable from social and racial justice, and that addressing the climate emergency requires rapid and systemic transformation. The network operates through 24 national and regional hubs that provide collaborative spaces for members, connecting grassroots communities most affected by climate change with regional and global advocacy efforts. Through these structures, local voices shape policies from the ground up, ensuring that those most impacted are at the centre of solutions.

The network plays a crucial role in holding governments accountable to their climate commitments and in pushing for people and the planet to be prioritised over short-term interests. By uniting civil society around evidence-based policy, CAN translates global agreements and pledges into action at national and community levels. They collaborate widely with other movements, coalitions, and networks, amplifying collective power and standing in solidarity with those on the frontlines of climate and social struggles.

To strengthen their global impact, CAN-I is seeking a creative and dedicated professional to join their international team as Digital Communications Officer. This is a full-time, remote position with an initial one-year contract and the possibility of renewal, starting as soon as possible. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing dynamic and engaging digital content, from Instagram reels and TikTok videos to quote graphics for emerging platforms like Bluesky and X. They will also capture and edit video and photo material at major events for rapid dissemination, track online conversations on priority issues, and actively engage audiences through CAN-I’s social media channels.

The role will involve co-developing a long-term digital communications strategy, contributing to media engagement at high-level political gatherings, and supporting the redesign and management of the organisation’s website. The officer will share responsibility for media and digital enquiries, provide input for fundraising initiatives, and collaborate closely with the communications team to ensure that the organisation’s outreach is consistent, timely, and impactful.

Candidates are expected to bring between three and five years of professional experience in digital media, journalism, or communications, whether in the nonprofit sector or beyond. Strong proficiency in English writing, proven skills across social media platforms, and the ability to simplify complex topics into accessible messages are essential. Design experience with tools such as Canva, Photoshop, or Adobe, as well as intermediate video production skills, are highly valued. Paid promotion expertise on channels like LinkedIn, familiarity with content management systems, and basic website coding will be considered assets.

The role requires someone proactive, independent, and detail-oriented, with excellent coordination abilities and cross-cultural sensitivity. Applicants should feel comfortable working remotely in an international setting and must resonate strongly with CAN’s values of equity, inclusion, transparency, solidarity, and respect. Advanced IT skills, familiarity with project management tools such as Slack, and experience with platforms like WordPress and Mailchimp will further support success in this position. While fluency in English is required, additional languages are advantageous. Candidates should also be prepared to undertake international travel for up to three weeks at a time, when needed.

This position offers a salary of up to €35,000 per year, inclusive of all benefits.
