REMOTE JOB: Julie’s Bicycle is hiring a Communications Lead (hybrid possible)
Applications are open for the position of Communications Lead at Julie’s Bicycle, a pioneering organisation working at the crossroads of culture and climate. This is a full-time, permanent opportunity based on a hybrid working model, with an office presence at Somerset House in London. The salary offered ranges between £43,000 and £45,000 per year, depending on the successful candidate’s experience. The role is designed to start as soon as the selected applicant is available, with flexibility around notice periods.
Julie’s Bicycle is in an exciting phase of transformation, preparing to unveil a refreshed brand identity and website, developed in collaboration with Greenhouse. This moment of renewal sets the stage for the incoming Communications Lead to take ownership of an ambitious digital-first communications strategy, shaping how the organisation shares its work, strengthens its voice, and reaches new and existing audiences. The person in this role will help articulate and promote a compelling narrative that places creative climate action at the heart of public discourse.
This position will play a central role in shaping brand direction, curating content, and ensuring that the organisation’s messaging is inclusive, consistent, and resonant across all channels. The work will span content creation, social media, email campaigns, digital storytelling, and collaboration on creative campaigns. There will be opportunities to lead projects from concept to delivery, manage both internal and freelance contributors, and work closely with the Director and other senior staff to ensure that communications support wider strategic goals, including programme visibility and fundraising efforts.
Collaboration lies at the core of this role. The Communications Lead will co-create campaigns with partners, align with key environmental and cultural networks, and ensure that Julie’s Bicycle remains a visible and inspiring voice in the wider climate movement. While traditional media and press relations are still part of the job, the primary emphasis will be on digital communication, audience growth, and strategic storytelling. The organisation is especially keen to ensure that its messaging reflects a commitment to climate justice, equity, and inclusivity.
Applicants should bring considerable experience in communications, ideally from cultural, nonprofit, or environmental sectors. Strong writing, editing, and campaign-building skills are essential, along with a flair for visual storytelling and a working knowledge of tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud or Canva. Experience in managing creative content, optimising digital engagement, and developing thoughtful, impactful messaging will be highly valued.
Julie’s Bicycle welcomes applicants from all backgrounds and is especially interested in hearing from people of colour and those who identify as disabled. The organisation fosters a working culture that values flexibility, learning, and personal well-being, offering benefits such as 25 days of annual leave (plus bank holidays), a yearly cultural activities allowance, and pension contributions.
This is a meaningful opportunity to help shape how the creative community responds to the climate crisis—and to contribute to a growing movement that links imagination, equity, and sustainability in bold new ways.
