2. Senior Communications Officer, International Energy Transition

Energy - Remote, Germany (Remote)

About the Role

At COP 28 in Dubai, global leaders pledged to transition away from fossil fuels in energy systems in a just, orderly, and equitable way. However, current government plans would result in producing more than twice the amount of fossil fuels by 2030 than is compatible with limiting global warming to 1.5°C—posing a serious risk to global emission reduction goals.

Civil society plays a crucial role in sustaining political momentum, supporting pioneering alliances, and holding governments and institutions accountable. IISD is a leader in these efforts and requires dynamic, impactful communications to amplify this work.

The Senior Communications Officer will lead communications for IISD Energy’s international team, helping to advance the global phase-out of oil and gas production and redirect public financial flows from fossil fuels to clean energy, in alignment with the Paris Agreement. This role involves close collaboration with IISD’s communications team and coordination with the Energy Program’s international strategy unit, which spearheads research, policy development, and strategic guidance. The successful candidate will also work regularly with a wide range of external partners, including civil society organizations, government representatives, networks, and media outlets.

Overview

The Senior Policy Advisor plays a key role in shaping, executing, overseeing, and reporting on research and deliverables within the Energy Program.

In this role, the Senior Policy Advisor is expected to:

(a) Build specialized knowledge in a specific focus area within the program and lead related projects, including securing and managing them; and/or

(b) Cultivate broad expertise across the program and oversee multiple projects within the program's scope at the same time.
