The Agroecology Fund (AEF), a global multi-donor initiative supporting agroecology movements, is recruiting a Grants Lead to oversee its global grantmaking operations. The Fund supports resilient food systems that advance food security, biodiversity, climate justice, and the rights of small-scale farmers, Indigenous communities, pastoralists, and fishers.

AEF works with more than 50 donors across the United States, Europe, and Asia and collaborates with philanthropic foundations, bilateral, and multilateral agencies. The organization operates with a decentralized global team and provides a collaborative, mission-driven working environment.

Role Overview

The Grants Lead will manage AEF’s global grantmaking operations and support regional agroecology funds in Mexico, India, East Africa, and West Africa. The role involves coordinating grant cycles, supporting advisory board processes, liaising with fiscal sponsors, and strengthening grantmaking systems and workflows.

The position reports to a Co-Director and collaborates closely with teams responsible for monitoring and evaluation, resource mobilization, finance, and regional coordination.

Key Responsibilities

The Grants Lead will:

• Manage global grantmaking operations and refine grantmaking systems and manuals

• Coordinate grant calendars and prepare guidelines for funding calls

• Manage online grant platforms and communications with applicants

• Support advisory board processes and prepare grant documentation

• Coordinate due diligence and financial processes with fiscal sponsors

• Track grant workflows, compliance, and reporting requirements

• Monitor grantee disbursements and resolve complex grant scenarios

• Prepare annual grant reports and lessons learned

• Support and advise regional grant teams and improve regional grant processes

• Contribute to special projects and organizational development initiatives

Impact of the Role

The Grants Lead will contribute to strengthening global agroecology movements and supporting grassroots organizations working on:

• Food security and nutrition

• Biodiversity and ecosystem health

• Climate justice and sustainable livelihoods
