The Y. Eva Tan Conservation Reporting Fellowship Program builds upon Mongabay's long-established internship initiative, which has enhanced the skills of environmental journalists in a field where hands-on experience can be rare. Since 2008, this program has provided valuable training and practical reporting experience to numerous aspiring journalists across more than a dozen countries. Many former Mongabay interns have gone on to pursue careers as professional journalists, communications experts at scientific institutions and conservation organizations, or have continued their work with Mongabay.
The Y. Eva Tan Conservation Reporting Fellowship Program will support up to 12 fellows annually—six at the global English bureau and six at the Spanish-language bureau, Mongabay-Latam (please refer to specific details and application periods for each language program as they may differ).
Fellows will gain important experience working with a variety of editors at an international news outlet, hone their environmental reporting skills, and create a portfolio of original stories that will help advance their journalism careers.

Fellows are expected to dedicate 10 hours per week to the program and produce one story per month to be published on Mongabay's website.
The position is remote, as Mongabay operates without a physical office and does not provide support for work visas.
Applicants should be emerging environmental journalists at the beginning of their careers.
Applicants must have the ability to work remotely and dedicate 10 hours per week to the fellowship.
There are no formal education requirements for applying, as the fellowship is not tied to any academic institution.
All application materials must be submitted in the appropriate language (English for the English-language program and Spanish for the Spanish-language program).
All documents must comply with the guidelines specified in the application form; applications that do not follow these guidelines will be disqualified.
