FULLY FUNDED: Apply for the University of Edinburgh Mastercard Foundation online learning scholarship 2025 – 2026

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Edinburgh for the 2025/2026 academic year is now accepting applications. This program aims to support outstanding young people who have shown strong academic and leadership abilities while overcoming significant obstacles in their education. It offers the chance to study online, making it a flexible option for those who wish to continue working while pursuing their studies in their home countries. Importantly, the online degrees awarded by the University of Edinburgh are equivalent to those earned on campus.

Candidates can apply for one of two options: a part-time **Online Masters** program, which takes three years, or a **Postgraduate Diploma**, completed part-time over two years. The Masters track is for those who have already earned an undergraduate degree and want to further specialize in their field. However, those who already hold a postgraduate qualification cannot apply for this track. On the other hand, the Postgraduate Diploma is ideal for those looking to shift their careers in a new direction. It is open to individuals who have either an undergraduate or Masters degree from a university in Sub-Saharan Africa, provided they can submit their degree certificates and transcripts by the application deadline.

The following fields of study are available through the scholarship: International Development (only available as a Masters), Global Food Security and Nutrition, Global Challenges, One Health, Carbon Management (only as a Masters), Circular Economy, Sustainable Lands and Cities, and Social Justice and Community Action.

To be eligible, applicants must meet the academic entry requirements for their chosen program at the University of Edinburgh. This usually means having the equivalent of a UK Second Class (Upper) Bachelor’s degree. Additionally, they must have faced significant barriers to their education, whether due to social, financial, personal, or health-related reasons. Applicants need to have completed their undergraduate degree and submit both their degree certificate and final transcript by **November 8, 2024**.

The program is specifically for residents of Sub-Saharan African countries, including those with refugee status. Applicants should have a proven track record of leadership and community service and demonstrate an interest or commitment to addressing the climate crisis. To qualify, applicants must also be born on or after **January 1, 1990**, meaning they will be **35 years or younger** when the program begins. Those applying for the **Masters** track should not have previously completed any postgraduate degrees, while those applying for the **Postgraduate Diploma** may have either an undergraduate or Masters degree from a Sub-Saharan African university.

The scholarship particularly encourages applications from women, refugees, and individuals with disabilities. It covers full tuition fees, provides a stipend to cover internet costs and the purchase of a laptop, and includes the chance to attend an in-person event. Scholars will also take part in the **Climate Leadership Programme**, where they will receive online coaching, participate in workshops, and benefit from the guidance of a dedicated online coordinator. Additional support is available for scholars with disabilities based on their specific needs.

The deadline for applications is November 8, 2024
