Applications are open for the 2025/2026 scholarships offered by the A.S. Hornby Educational Trust. This initiative focuses on enhancing the capabilities of professionals involved in teaching English in low- and middle-income nations. The scholarships support individuals pursuing a Master’s degree who have demonstrated experience and potential to advance English language education in their home countries.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible, applicants must meet the following requirements:
•Be a resident and employee in a country classified by the OECD DAC list as Least Developed, Low Income, Lower Middle Income, or Upper Middle Income (list available here).
•Possess at least three years of full-time experience in TESOL teaching or a related professional role post-bachelor’s degree.
•Hold a first degree with results equivalent to a UK upper second-class honors degree or higher, or a relevant postgraduate qualification.
•Submit an application to the University of Exeter’s MEd TESOL program and obtain a student number before applying for the Hornby Scholarship. The student number, which will be issued after submitting the Exeter application, is required for the scholarship application.
Scholarship Coverage
A maximum of ten (10) fully funded scholarships will be awarded for September 2025 entry to candidates meeting the University of Exeter’s requirements for the MEd TESOL program. The scholarships are intended for skilled and experienced professionals who are nationals of the countries outlined in the eligibility criteria.
Key Dates
•The application deadline is 26 February 2025.
•Shortlisted candidates will be informed by 18 April 2025.
•Interviews will take place between 28 April and 14 May 2025.
•Final decisions for successful candidates will be announced by 22 May 2025.
