PAID FELLOWSHIP: Apply for the EU Delegation to Uganda’s Funded Traineeship for Young graduates in Uganda 2025

Applications are open for an exciting traineeship opportunity for recent graduates eager to deepen their understanding of international affairs. If you’re passionate about diplomacy and curious about how the European Union operates in Uganda, this is your chance to gain hands-on experience at the EU Delegation.

This training placement, beginning in November 2025, offers a period of up to six months within the Delegation’s Political, Press and Information Section and the Cooperation Section. Participants will engage in a range of tasks designed to provide practical exposure to the work of an EU diplomatic mission.

Trainees will be expected to conduct research focusing on the EU’s cooperation with Uganda, contribute to written analysis on political and development issues, and help compile and coordinate information from various EU Member States. They’ll support preparations for events—especially those celebrating 50 years of EU-Uganda relations—attend meetings, and produce detailed summaries. Other responsibilities include assisting in youth outreach initiatives, participating in public communications and visibility campaigns, and maintaining organized records of the Delegation’s cooperative work.

Applicants must currently reside in Uganda due to local health and safety regulations. A completed undergraduate degree in a field such as political science, economics, communication, history, or other areas connected to EU cooperation is required. A strong grasp of the English language, both spoken and written, is essential. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a proactive attitude, adaptability in multicultural settings, and solid research and writing abilities. Competency in Microsoft Office applications is also necessary, along with a genuine interest in global affairs, development cooperation, or Uganda’s political and economic environment. Familiarity with Uganda’s institutional landscape and prior experience managing social media platforms would be advantageous, as would well-developed organizational skills for managing archives.

Each trainee selected will receive a monthly allowance to help cover living costs, but other expenses such as travel, visas, insurance, and housing will be the responsibility of the participant. Only individuals who meet the eligibility requirements will be considered. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews, while those not selected will be informed via email. Offers are contingent on the submission of all required documents.

Traineeships are offered in accordance with both Ugandan regulations and the legal framework of the applicant’s country of origin. Candidates from EU countries must show proof of pandemic-related coverage and repatriation insurance, and may be required to obtain a visa or temporary residence permit based on local laws and the duration of the traineeship.
