FULLY FUNDED: Apply for the TWAS Fellowships for Research and Advanced Training 2025/2026 for young scientists
Applications are currently open for the 2025/2026 cycle of the TWAS Research and Advanced Training Fellowships. These fellowships are designed to support early-career researchers from developing nations by giving them the opportunity to spend between three and twelve months at a scientific institution located in another developing country. The main aim of the program is to strengthen the scientific skills of young researchers, expand their networks, and encourage long-term collaboration in the global scientific community.
The initiative welcomes applications from researchers who already hold at least a Master’s degree or an equivalent qualification. Eligible candidates must be citizens of developing nations, actively working in any field of the natural sciences, and employed at research institutions in their home countries. While there is no formal age restriction, preference is given to scientists who are at the start of their careers and those based in countries classified as Least Developed. A crucial requirement is that the host institution must also be situated in a developing country. However, institutes that are part of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) are excluded from hosting fellows under this program. Researchers interested in placements in China must confirm that their chosen host is not affiliated with CAS.
The fellowship duration can range from a minimum of three months to a maximum of one year, depending on the proposed research plan and agreement with the host institution. TWAS provides international travel support, covering the cost of a low-fare flight, and offers a modest monthly stipend of up to 300 US dollars to assist with basic living expenses. Beyond this, the host institution is expected to provide the necessary facilities for research, along with accommodation and meals for the visiting scientist.
Selection of fellows is carried out by the TWAS Fellowships Committee, with awards granted strictly on the basis of the applicant’s scientific achievements and potential to contribute to research development in their field.
