FULLY FUNDED : Apply for the Maastricht University Social Justice Scholarship 2027-2028 in the Netherlands
Applications are open for the Maastricht University (UM) Social Justice Scholarship 2027-2028, a fully funded opportunity for talented international students who want to pursue a Master’s degree in Globalisation and Law in the Netherlands.
The scholarship is designed for students who have demonstrated a strong commitment to human rights, social justice and the rule of law through professional, community, extracurricular or other initiatives. One scholarship is awarded each academic year to an outstanding international student.
About the Scholarship
The UM Social Justice Scholarship supports Maastricht University’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, human rights and strengthening the rule of law. It provides selected students with financial support throughout the 13-month Globalisation and Law Master’s programme.
The opportunity is particularly suited to candidates who have combined strong academic performance with practical efforts to promote human rights or strengthen access to justice in their communities.
Final decisions are expected in April 2027, with applicants receiving their final status by early May 2027.
Successful scholars will also take part in a mandatory two-week UM Pre-Academic Training programme beginning in August 2027.
The scholarship application must be submitted through the university’s scholarship application system by 1 February 2027.

- Allocated accommodation through Maastricht Housing until July 2028
- The scholarship does not cover international airfare. Awardees are also responsible for an accommodation cleaning fee of approximately €75.
- Be a national of a country outside the EU/EEA, Switzerland or Suriname.
- Not hold dual nationality from an EU/EEA country or Switzerland.
- Apply for the full-time Globalisation and Law Master’s programme for the 2027-2028 academic year.
- Complete the full Master’s application and meet all admission requirements by 10 December 2026.
- Have a proven record of supporting human rights and/or the rule of law through professional, community or extracurricular activities.
- Meet the admission requirements for the Globalisation and Law programme.
- Be no older than 35 years on 1 September 2027.
- Have achieved a minimum GPA of 7.5 out of 10, or an equivalent of at least 75% of the maximum grading scale.
- Preferably not already hold another Master’s degree.
- Submit only one scholarship application.
Because only one scholarship is available, the selection process is highly competitive. Academic excellence alone is not enough; applicants are expected to demonstrate meaningful involvement in human rights, social justice or the rule of law.
