The Sustainable Development Programme of SwedBio centres on five main themes: Climate change & ecosystems, Livelihood, food & health, Cities & biodiversity, Biocultural diversity, and Values & governance. Agroecology is a movement that seeks to shift food systems towards ones that are more diverse, equitable, and sustainable. It focuses on smallholder farmers regaining their rights to resources and expertise. Urban Nature is centred on integrating ecosystem services into urban planning and promoting awareness and application of pertinent nature-based solutions in urban settings. SwedBio works to enhance biological and cultural diversity and the connections between it and local community organisations by partnering with indigenous peoples.

The necessity of biodiversity and ecosystem services for both reducing and adapting to climate change is highlighted by climate change. The Climate Change subject of SwedBio enhances fair ecosystem governance and management that promotes climate change adaptation, mitigation, and disaster risk reduction in addition to sustainable livelihoods. In order to comprehend and acknowledge the necessity of nature-based solutions, such as ecosystem-based methods to adaptation and disaster risk reduction, SwedBio brings together a variety of actors.

Small-scale fisheries aims to uplift small-scale fishers/farmers, fishworkers, and those engaged in the value chain through the sustainable and equitable governance and management of social-ecological aquatic systems. By enhancing their voices, involvement, and understanding of their tenure rights, our initiative guarantees food security and resilient, sustainable livelihoods.
