Applications are open for the ABCD Future Environmental Leaders Scholarships 2026, offered by the ABCD-Centre – Global Water and Climate Adaptation Centre. This program provides doctoral students from developing countries with the chance to conduct advanced research in Germany, focusing on climate adaptation, water security, and sustainable environmental solutions.

Selected scholars will undertake a 9-month research stay at leading institutions in Germany, gain international exposure, and receive financial support to advance their doctoral research.

Monthly accommodation and living expenses: €1,200
Monthly insurance allowance: up to €105
One-time travel stipend: up to €1,000
Research project materials/equipment support: up to €1,000 through host institution
International exposure and collaboration with top research institutions and climate experts

Eligibility Criteria

The scholarship is open to doctoral students from developing countries who began their PhD within the last three years. Applicants must propose research aligned with the program’s priority themes, although a broad range of environmental and climate-related topics will be considered. Priority is given to projects in:
• Topic A: Modelling Water Infrastructure, Digitalization Methods for Digital Twins, Habitat Modelling
• Topic B: Innovative Monitoring for Ecosystem Resilience and Nature-Based Adaptation
• Topic C: Climate-Driven Water Extremes in Urban Areas
• Topic D: Sustainable Business Models for Unconventional Water Resources
• Topic E: Eco-Friendly Materials and Sustainable Building Solutions for Climate Adaptation
