The University of Tokyo is inviting outstanding undergraduate students from across Asia to apply for the UTokyo Amgen Scholars Program 2026, a prestigious, fully funded summer research opportunity in biomedical and life sciences.

This highly competitive program offers motivated undergraduates the chance to spend eight weeks conducting hands-on research in world-class laboratories while gaining international research exposure and building long-term academic networks.

Program Overview

The UTokyo Amgen Scholars Program is part of the global Amgen Scholars initiative, designed to prepare future scientists for advanced research and graduate studies. Selected scholars will work full-time on an independent research project under the supervision of leading faculty at the University of Tokyo.

Beyond lab work, participants take part in seminars, academic discussions, cultural activities, and professional development sessions, culminating in presentations at the Amgen Scholars Asia Symposium.

Program Dates

• Program Period: June 4 – August 6, 2026

• Research Phase: June 4 – July 31, 2026

• Asia Symposium: August 4 – 6, 2026

• Application Deadline: February 1, 2026 (3:00 PM JST)

Number of Slots

• Approximately 10 scholars will be selected

Program Expectations

Selected scholars are expected to:

• Participate fully for the entire program duration

• Live in the accommodation arranged by UTokyo

• Work full-time in the assigned laboratory

• Attend seminars, cultural events, and required activities

• Deliver oral and poster presentations on their research projects

• Refrain from holding other jobs or enrolling in courses during the program
