FULLY FUNDED TO GERMANY, BELGIUM AND THE U.K : Apply for the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in International Law of Security, Peace and Sustainable Development (ILSPSD) 2027–2029
Applications are now open for the 2027–2029 Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in International Law of Security, Peace and Sustainable Development (ILSPSD), a two-year interdisciplinary master’s programme designed for graduates who want to build careers at the intersection of international law, security, peace and sustainable development. The programme brings together six leading European higher education institutions and a network of 30 associated partners to prepare future lawyers, policymakers and international affairs professionals to address increasingly interconnected global challenges.
The 24-month programme combines international law with political studies, security and sustainability, allowing students to examine issues including armed conflict, migration, climate change, human rights, international security and other challenges affecting global governance. Students study across multiple European countries, gaining international academic and professional exposure throughout the programme.
All students begin their studies at Leuphana University of Lüneburg in Germany, where they undertake the first semester in International Law of Security, Peace and Sustainable Development through either an LL.M. or M.A. study track. The second semester takes place at the Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals in Spain, where students study theories of international security. For the third and fourth semesters, students choose one of four specialisation tracks at the University of Glasgow in the United Kingdom, Université libre de Bruxelles in Belgium, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa in Portugal, or the University of Tartu in Estonia. Students remain at their selected institution during the final semester while completing their master’s dissertation. (Leuphana Universität Lüneburg)
The programme provides students with opportunities to gain practical experience through summer schools, guest lectures, legal clinics, internships and engagement with practitioners. Depending on the study pathway selected, graduates can receive joint, double or multiple master’s degrees from the participating institutions. The programme is taught entirely in English and carries 120 ECTS credits over four semesters. (Leuphana Universität Lüneburg)
A total of 70 Erasmus Mundus scholarships are available across the programme’s five-year funding period. The scholarships provide comprehensive financial support, including full tuition fee coverage and a living allowance of €1,400 per month for up to 24 months, with the programme also providing support related to travel, accommodation and health insurance according to the applicable scholarship conditions.
The programme is particularly suited to graduates of law and related disciplines such as international relations, political science, European studies and war studies, provided they meet the programme’s academic requirements, including the required background in law. Applicants must hold a recognised bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification that provides access to master’s-level study and must demonstrate proficiency in English. Because individual specialisation tracks can have additional requirements, applicants should carefully review the admission conditions before applying.
The application deadline for candidates seeking an Erasmus Mundus scholarship is 4 January 2027 at 23:59 CET. Applicants who intend to self-fund their studies can submit their applications until 31 March 2027 at 23:59 CEST. Applications are submitted online through the official ILSPSD application portal, which is coordinated by Leuphana University of Lüneburg on behalf of the consortium.
Interested applicants should review the official programme requirements and application guide carefully before submitting their applications, particularly because the four specialisation universities may have additional admission requirements.
