FULLY FUNDED TO THAILAND : Apply For The EarthRights School 2026 — Community Leadership and Advocacy Training

Applications are open for the EarthRights School (ERS) 2026 cohort — a transformative 7½-month leadership and advocacy training program for community-based activists .

Designed for individuals working at the intersection of environmental protection and human rights, the program equips grassroots leaders with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to advocate for fair and sustainable development in their communities.

About the Program

ERS provides a safe and inclusive learning space where emerging leaders from diverse ethnic, social, and political backgrounds come together to build skills in advocacy, leadership, and community empowerment. The 2026 theme, “Community Leadership and Advocacy,” focuses on understanding the impact of large-scale development projects and fostering strategies for equitable, community-driven solutions.

Participants will explore key topics such as environmental justice, human rights, legal advocacy, storytelling, strategic campaign planning, corporate accountability, and engagement with international systems such as the United Nations and human rights commissions.

ERS especially encourages women, Indigenous peoples, and rural community activists to apply. The program upholds a strict non-discrimination policy based on ethnicity, religion, gender, political belief, or other personal attributes.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will gain:

  • A deeper understanding of environmental and human rights frameworks in the Mekong Region.

  • Advocacy and community mobilization skills for promoting justice and accountability.

  • Practical knowledge in stakeholder analysis, research, and strategic planning.

  • Competence in legal literacy, enabling them to protect community rights.

  • Experience in collaborative and participatory learning, emphasizing diversity and inclusion.

  • Strengthened regional networks with other EarthRights defenders.

  • Field Practicum: July 25 – September 4, 2026

Program Format and Support

- The program runs from May to November 2026 and includes:

- Residential training in Chiang Mai, Thailand (May–July and September–November).

- Field practicum in participants’ home countries (July–September).

- Interactive learning through workshops, simulations, group projects, and storytelling sessions.

- Guidance from trainers and mentors with regional and international expertise.

- EarthRights will cover travel, visa, accommodation, food, and other training-related costs. Participants will also receive a monthly stipend throughout the program duration.
Eligibility Criteria
The program targets individuals who:

- Are actively working with or for communities affected by large-scale or harmful development projects.

- Have 2–3 years of experience in environmental or human rights advocacy, research, or community organizing.

- Are affiliated with an organization that supports their participation before, during, and after the training.

- Are committed to applying their new skills to strengthen community efforts after completion.

- Possess basic to intermediate English proficiency and are eager to improve throughout the program.
