FULLY FUNDED TO THE UN HEADQUARTERS IN NEWYORK: Apply for the Water Youth Constituency funding to attend the 2026 UN Water Conference
Applications are now open for a fully funded opportunity to participate in a high-level United Nations gathering focused on one of the most pressing global challenges—clean water and sanitation. Young changemakers passionate about water security, climate resilience, and sustainable development are encouraged to apply to attend the UN General Assembly’s Multi-Stakeholder Preparatory Meeting, which will take place on 9 July 2025 at the UN Headquarters in New York City.
This one-day meeting, convened by the President of the UN General Assembly, aims to promote accelerated progress toward Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6), which focuses on ensuring the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. The event will also lay the groundwork for the 2026 UN Water Conference and set the themes for key interactive dialogues to follow.
Globally, water insecurity is becoming increasingly dire. Over 2.2 billion people still lack access to safely managed drinking water, while more than 4.2 billion live without safely managed sanitation services. Environmental degradation, climate change, pollution, and unsustainable water use continue to worsen the situation. Alarmingly, 80 percent of the world’s wastewater is released untreated into ecosystems, and approximately 70 percent of natural wetland areas have already disappeared, with critical consequences for biodiversity and freshwater species.
In response to these urgent challenges, the Water Youth Constituency—convened by the Water Youth Network—is nominating 3 to 5 young people to attend this crucial dialogue with support from the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA). Selected participants will receive full funding to travel and take part in this global policy-shaping moment.
Due to time constraints, only youth who already hold a valid U.S. visa will be considered. Applicants must also submit a detailed biography that clearly aligns with the conference theme. This bio will be shared with the UN and event organizers and plays a key role in whether a nomination is accepted.
Young advocates, researchers, and professionals working on issues related to water, sanitation, climate resilience, and sustainable development are especially encouraged to apply. This is not just a chance to attend an event—it’s an opportunity to influence global water governance and amplify youth voices at the heart of international decision-making.
The deadline to submit your application is 16 June 2025 at 5 PM New York time.
