FULLY FUNDED:Apply For The Canon Foundation Japan-Africa Exchange Programme 2027

Applications are open for the Canon Foundation Japan-Africa Exchange Programme 2027. This international research fellowship supports post-graduate scholars from Africa and Japan who wish to conduct research in African Studies either in Japan or Africa respectively. The programme focuses on strengthening scientific collaboration, cultural exchange, and people-to-people partnerships that contribute to development and knowledge sharing between both regions. The fellowship allows African researchers to carry out research at Japanese universities and institutions, while Japanese researchers can conduct research at African universities and research centers.  

The programme offers flexible research periods ranging from six to eight weeks up to one year. Selected fellows receive financial support between €22,500 and €27,500 per year, and the amount is adjusted depending on the duration of the fellowship. It is also possible for participants to split their research stay abroad into different periods if necessary.

Successful applicants will receive generous financial support ranging from €22,500 to €27,500 annually, depending on the length of the research period. The funding is prorated for shorter stays and is designed to support travel, accommodation, and research-related expenses during the fellowship.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be post-graduate scholars from Africa or Japan who intend to carry out research related to African Studies. Candidates are expected to hold at least a Master’s degree at the time of application. The programme is open to citizens or permanent residents of African countries and Japan who are interested in conducting academic research that promotes bilateral cooperation and scientific exchange. Preference is given to projects that encourage development in Africa through collaborative research and mutual understanding between researchers from both regions.

Applicants are also expected to prepare a strong research proposal outlining the objectives, significance, and expected outcomes of their study. Supporting documents, including recommendation letters and proof of affiliation with host institutions, may be required during the application process.
