The Future of Life Institute (FLI) is providing grants to support initiatives that educate and engage both stakeholders and the general public in efforts to ensure AI development is safe, beneficial, and secure.
These grants aim to encourage important conversations and actions that will contribute to a better future with AI.
Grant Details
- Status: Open for applications
- Grant Amount: $100k-$500k (up to $5M in total)
- Project Duration: Up to 3 years (first-year funding will be provided, with additional years subject to progress reviews)
Focus Areas
Eligible projects should focus on one or both of the following:
- Engaging Specific Stakeholder Groups: Educating and involving distinct communities, industries, or organizations in the dialogue about AI safety.
- Public Outreach: Organizing and mobilizing grassroots support to educate the broader public on the challenges and opportunities associated with AI.
Examples of Potential Projects
- Educational campaigns targeting specific groups (e.g., unions, political parties) to address AI-related issues.
- Grassroots efforts to increase awareness, such as organizing online or offline events and campaigns around AI safety.
- Collaboration with various groups, including religious, professional, and community-based organizations, to tailor outreach efforts.
Evaluation Criteria
Applications will be evaluated based on:
- Relevance to AI safety and its social impact.
- Potential to Mobilize communities and increase awareness.
- Evidence of Success from past initiatives, showing a solid approach and experience.
Important Dates
- Letter of Intent (LOI): Due by February 4, 2025, 11:59 PM EST.
- Full Proposals (if invited): Due by March 11, 2025.
- Selection Announcement: By the end of April 2025.
FLI encourages proposals that emphasize collaboration across different sectors and aim for inclusive and balanced engagement to promote AI safety and its benefits for all communities.
