Nominations Are Open To Join The UN Ocean Decade Advisory Board 2026–2027
UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) is inviting nominations for new expert members to join the Decade Advisory Board (DAB), which will guide the second half of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021–2030).
Serving from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2027, the 15 selected experts will provide strategic direction to strengthen the Decade’s impact, refine governance models, enhance resource mobilization, foster collaboration across the UN system, and engage underrepresented regions and groups.
They will also help shape the 2027 Ocean Decade Conference, a milestone event to accelerate ocean action and define the Decade’s long-term legacy.
Required expertise includes at least one of the following areas:

Intergovernmental processes and coordination
-
Ocean science (natural or social dimensions)
-
Sustainable development and ocean policy
-
Ocean economy, finance, and partnerships
-
Innovation, technology, and infrastructure development
-
Capacity building, education, and outreach
-
Science-policy engagement
-
Large-scale international programmes
Eligibility & Selection
Members will be chosen to ensure diverse expertise, geography, gender, and generations. Service is voluntary, with a two-year term (renewable once).
