Three awards of $50,000/year for students : Apply for the University of Guelph’s Arrell Scholarships

Arrell Scholarships are awarded to emerging leaders in the agri-food sector who are academically excellent and dedicated to ensuring a sustainable, productive, and equitable food system.

The Arrell Family Foundation

The Arrell Food Institute was established in 2017 with a $20-million investment from the Arrell Family Foundation, which was matched by the University. This funding aims to bring together individuals and organizations dedicated to tackling one of the world’s most pressing issues: food security, safety, and sustainability.

Founded in 1999 by Tony and Anne Arrell, the Foundation is managed by them along with their daughters Laura (Managing Director), Ashleigh, and Nicole, as well as Richard Rooney and Erik Joyal. The Foundation is guided by the values instilled by the Arrell family, focusing on kindness, compassion for the less fortunate, and making a positive impact on the world.

The Foundation's mission is to enhance both human and planetary health through food. In addition, it supports initiatives related to mental health, brain research, and Cystic Fibrosis.

The Arrell Family Foundation’s dedication to improving global health aligns closely with the University of Guelph's own objectives to advance research and education in these areas.

Both Tony and Anne have long-standing ties with the University. Tony, a 1967 graduate of the Ontario Agricultural College with a Bachelor of Science, received an Honorary Doctorate from the University in 2012. Anne, a 1968 graduate of the Macdonald Institute with a Bachelor of Household Science, and Tony both have made substantial contributions to the University through volunteering and financial support over many years.

Don't miss out on the application deadline which is April 15 , 2025
