Applications are open for young changemakers from around the globe to join the World Ocean Day Youth Advisory Council. This council brings together 20 to 25 dedicated individuals, aged 16 to 23, who are passionate about marine conservation and climate action. These young leaders come from diverse backgrounds and geographic locations, united by a shared commitment to protecting the ocean and advancing sustainability within their communities and beyond.

Established in 2016, the Council plays a key role in shaping World Ocean Day as a powerful platform for global environmental awareness and action. It provides a space for members to exchange ideas, support one another’s initiatives, and inspire broader public participation in protecting marine ecosystems. The Council is designed to strengthen the voices of youth who are already actively engaged in conservation work, while also helping them build skills in advocacy, event planning, collaboration, and leadership.

Members are expected to continue their existing environmental work while deepening their impact. Throughout the year, they help amplify the reach and influence of World Ocean Day by organizing and promoting events, developing content, and spreading awareness both online and offline. Council members work together to support each other’s efforts, propose strategies to increase youth engagement, and provide input on the global campaign’s direction and priorities.

Participants are asked to commit to a one-year term, attend virtual meetings quarterly, complete a few surveys during their tenure, and take part in digital advocacy training. Active communication with the team and other Council members is encouraged through platforms like email and WhatsApp. Optional collaborative projects between members are welcomed and supported.

To be eligible, applicants must be fluent in English, have reliable internet access, and have prior experience in environmental or conservation-related initiatives. While organizing and advocacy experience is not required, it is seen as a valuable addition. The Council welcomes young people from all countries and supports members through mentorship, training, networking opportunities, and public recognition of their work.

By joining the Youth Advisory Council, young environmental advocates gain access to a global network, receive leadership development, and find new ways to elevate their voice and influence change for the health of the ocean and the stability of the planet.
