Generation Climate Europe (GCE), recognized as the largest coalition of youth-led networks tackling climate and environmental issues across the continent, is inviting passionate young individuals to apply for the volunteer role of Project Officer on Sustainable Organisations. Representing the voices of more than 20 million young Europeans and uniting 381 national organisations in 46 countries, GCE serves as a dynamic platform where youth can advocate for a just, inclusive, and sustainable future. The coalition envisions a world that protects human rights, upholds environmental justice, and prioritizes intergenerational equity in the global fight for carbon neutrality.

Those who apply will join the newly formed Education & Skills Working Group and contribute to the successful implementation of one of GCE’s most exciting new initiatives: a project centered on building Sustainable Organisations. This opportunity is ideal for anyone who believes that education lies at the core of transformative societal change. As education systems across Europe continue to fall short in equipping young people with the skills, knowledge, and political agency to navigate interconnected global crises, this project steps in to bridge that gap. The aim is to empower members of youth organisations to recognize the crucial intersections of climate, education, and skills—and most importantly, to act on them.

The selected volunteer will work alongside a committed team including the project lead and two working group coordinators who will provide guidance, encouragement, and access to the wider GCE network. Collaboration with Member Organisations that focus on education and skills, such as the European Student Union, Erasmus Student Network, and OBESSU, will be a key aspect of the role. The ultimate goal is to assist young people in understanding how their organisational work connects to the climate crisis and to help them implement sustainable solutions.

In this volunteer position, the individual will contribute to several important tasks. These include creating a comprehensive handbook for Member Organisations focused on sustainable event planning and management, and supporting or facilitating trainings designed to build green competencies in collaboration with GCE’s training team. Strengthening partnerships with other European stakeholders active in education for sustainable development will also be an essential part of the role. Day-to-day responsibilities include attending weekly team meetings, participating in working group discussions, building meaningful relationships with relevant partners, and keeping the project team informed and aligned.

GCE is looking for someone with a genuine interest or experience in education and skills development, paired with strong motivation and interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate is organised, manages time well, and is capable of working remotely with stable internet access. A connection to the European context is essential, as is an understanding of how the European Union functions or a background that supports such familiarity. Availability of 2 to 4 hours per week is expected, and being located within two time zones of Central European Time (CET/CEST) is preferable for smooth coordination.

Applicants who bring previous experience in environmental management or sustainable event planning, or who hold a broad network within the climate, education, or skills development fields, will be especially valued. However, the team encourages individuals from all backgrounds to apply. Interviews will take place in the second half of April, and applications are being reviewed on a rolling basis.
